Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a difficult year, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his initial championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children together, so to get a title is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His defensive approach and recurring reactions on court had led commentators to question if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to create a third set.

He saved 4 early break points in a tight third set before the champion broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
